QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Minimum of bachelor degree with emphasis or major in area of assignment.
  2. Must have valid Georgia professional teaching certificate in the assigned teaching field. (Highly Qualified, HiQ).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Is responsible for keeping his/her certificate valid for the field in which he/she is teaching as outlined by the state department of education and the county board of education. Participates in in-service and staff development programs as appropriate.

Provides instruction by teaching at an appropriate instructional level, developing content (providing teacher-focused and student-focused content development) and building for transfer (providing initial focus, content emphasis and linking, and lesson summaries).

Assesses and encourages student progress by promoting student engagement, monitoring student progress, responding to adequate and inadequate student performance, and supporting students

Manages the learning environment by using time efficiently (handling noninstructional tasks efficiently and using instructional time appropriately), maintaining effective physical setting for instruction, maintaining appropriate student behavior in the classroom monitoring and intervening when necessary.

Follows professional practices consistent with school and system policies in working with students, students' records, parents and colleagues by:

  1. interacting in a professional manner with students and parents
  2. being available to students and parents for conferences according to system policies,
  3. facilitating home-school communication by such means as holding conferences, telephoning, and sending written communications,
  4. maintaining confidentiality of students and students' records, and
  5. working cooperatively with school administrators, special support personnel, colleagues, and parents.

Compiles with school system, and state administrative regulations and board of education policies by:

  1. conducting assigned classes at the times scheduled,
  2. enforcing regulations concerning student conduct and discipline,
  3. being punctual,
  4. providing adequate information, plans, and materials for substitute teacher,
  5. maintaining accurate, complete, and appropriate records and filing reports promptly, a. conducting assigned classes at the times scheduled,
  6. attending and participating in faculty meetings and other assigned meetings and activities according to school policy and
  7. complying with conditions as stated in contract.

Demonstrates professional practices in teaching by:

  1. modeling correct use of language, oral and written,
  2. demonstrating accurate and up-to-date knowledge of content,
  3. implementing the designated curriculum,
  4. maintaining lesson plans as required by school policy, and
  5. assigning reasonable tasks and homework to students.

Acts in a professional manner and assumes responsibility for the total school program, its safety and good order by:

  1. taking precautions to protect records, equipment, materials, and facilities, and
  2. assuming responsibility for supervising students out-of-class settings.

Complies with all school rules, regulations, and expectations prescribed the school principal or other authority at the local school level in addition to all system policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Follows the Code of Ethics and Standards of Conduct for Educators as promulgated by the Georgia Professional Practices Commission to maintain a high level of ethical conduct in relationships dealing with students, with colleagues, and with the public.

Displays the proper attitude and cooperation necessary to function as an effective professional team member of the school staff; demonstrates respect for and acceptance of diverse opinions and views which may differ from one's own personal viewpoint.

Carries out other duties as may be assigned by the principal, which may include supervisory responsibilities, bus duty, hall or cafeteria monitoring, club or activity sponsorship, athletic coaching, coordinating special programs or functions, serving on committees, and so forth.

Understands that the teacher holds a most important position as public relations agent for the school. Realizes that opinions toward education are usually based upon confidence in teachers. Assists parents and members of the community in understanding the purposes, vision, mission, and beliefs of the school system.

Displays a loyal commitment to the school system and contributes toward upholding the educational beliefs of the school and system.

Other duties as assigned by the principal.
